Martha walks to a door in the power plant and walks inside the room. When they had entered, it was night. Magnus scoffs and leaves, the others following.
She says that has nothing to do with it, he has really changed, she has no idea what is going on with him. Martha looks back and tells him to leave their mother out of it, and telling him she would be back before sundown. Martha promises to make everything right before Jonas closes his eyes and dies.
Middle aged Martha enters the room as she says this, and young Martha points out they have not accomplished anything. Martha walks through the woods when she is approached by Jonas. Read at your own risk! A few years later, Hannah travels to 1911 with her young daughter, Silja, to find an adult version of Jonas, who then kills her. After performing at the school play later that night, Jonas visits Martha in the dressing room. Later, he stops alt world Martha from saving Jonas in 2020 at the behest of his older self, who is working for Eva. If he wants to save Martha, he has to choose the side of light and become what she has. They ask him what is going on.
Martha goes into Magnus' room, asking if they could talk. Jonas concludes by saying that it is a "glitch in the matrix", and once again asks why he is there. Looking at her, present Martha asks her who she is. She tells him that his life ends right then and there because he had accomplished what he had been sent to that world to do. As he did previously, he responds "a glitch in the matrix." In the alt world, a past version of alt world Martha dates Kilian Obendorf but breaks up with him after witnessing Mads Nielsen's body fall through a crack in space and time alongside Kilian, Magnus, Franziska Doppler, and Bartosz. She eventually has a child with Jonas, and her son becomes the unnamed assassins who work for Eva, who is a future version of Martha equivalent to Jonas' Adam. However, she was lying and when Jonas and the rest tried to get the dark matter to work, Franziska asks where Martha is; she is in her room grabbing a lantern and her orb.
She sends Noah, Egon, Agnes, Bartosz (and I think a couple others) through time to fulfil their ‘destinies’.The moment time stands still is when Eva is able to ‘create’ these alternate realities. All over Winden, lights start flickering, leaving everybody in shock. While Martha looks at the walls she begins to hyperventilate when she sees many names crossed out. Martha is confused and asks him who he is. Shortly after, Jonas who has travelled from 1921 sits next to Martha. Egon Tiedemann (Christian Patzold as an old man; Sebastian Hulk as an adult)Egon is a police officer in 1953 and investigates the disappearance of Helge Doppler and murders of Yasin Friese and Erik Obendorf, eventually arresting Ulrich Nielsen, who traveled back in time from 2019. Katharina realizes Martha probably does not want to speak to her, but assures her daughter she is there if she ever needs to. Jonas holds out an world travelling orb, and tells her that old Tannhaus firmly believed he was creating a paradise so they could be free of destiny and pain. When Martha turns around, she sees a young Jonas, who is joined by Michael, who also asks him if he is alright. She also tells him "I think you're right," before kissing him and ultimately results in them having sex. Martha falls and gets separated from the group. My initial understanding of this was that alt-Martha saving Jonas led to a time loop in which she doesn't save Jonas, which in turn leads back to a loop where she does.
However, Eva says that even if he knew the cycle, he would never stop trying to break it and would not understand that the knot must be preserved and her Martha must die so that all others could live. She hands it to him, while mentioning it was the only way she could travel back again. She tells him to stay away from her once again, and leaves.
They emerge from the forest and come to the bus stop.
